Talking Cosmetics and Comedy with Comedienne Corlis DeLauren

Adrienne Blanks

As a stand-up comic and self-proclaimed “girly girl,” Corlis DeLauren is making her mark on stage and on the small screen. Her story-telling skills landed her a role on the MTV show, Greatest Party Story Ever, where she takes viewers on a hilarious journey, narrating her dating ups and downs as part of an animated reenactment.

We were all smiles when we caught up with our favorite funny gal to learn a bit more about her beauty routine and how she takes time out for self-care behind the scenes.

D.I.D. Nail Paint: What is the beauty or skincare product you can’t live without?

Corlis DeLauren: I have tremendously oily skin – which I’ve heard will benefit me as I age, but does nothing for my current level of annoyance – and my budget doesn't always allow for "pricey primers" that actually work. So I found that the Maybelline primer does wonders for my skin, with or without make-up.

D.I.D. Nail Paint: How often do you get manicures and pedicures?

Corlis Delauren: I work on my feet a lot, and that’s before we even talk about the years of Track & Field that ransacked my toes, so I try to get pedicures every week or bi-weekly. It's very therapeutic and relaxing to get a foot massage, and I can tell it’s helping my feet look and feel better with time. I love to do my own nails, and I’m refining my skills every day. I always felt like the nail ladies were too cavalier and would do what they wanted to do…and I found they sometimes lacked good ole artistic abilities. With my D.I.Y. manicures, I shape them how I want, layer the colors how I want and decorate HOW I WANT! It's my "me" time, and once again it relaxes my nerves, I suppose…

D.I.D. NailPaint: What colors do you typically wear on your nails?

Corlis DeLauren: So I admit I am super girly and I tend to flock towards purples, pinks, nudes and reds. But you can never beat a good old fashioned French or American tip. I really have started to embrace the ombre or Baby Boomer effect with french tips. Its that beautiful natural look that every woman wants with strong healthy nails.

D.I.D. Nail Paint: Do you have a regular beauty routine?

Corlis DeLauren: Any Capricorn loves a good routine, and I’m true to that. I always wash my face and shower before bed – even if I'm sloppy drunk! That being said, I have to do the bentonite clay mask with apple cider vinegar in the morning or at night, I have to exfoliate my body every shower with my gloves, and I have to take my vitamins with apple cider vinegar everyday. It's my way of controlling acne (face and body), blemished skin, weight gain and lack of energy. I wash my hair WAY more now that I am natural, but mostly with conditioner. Does anyone else feel as liberated as I do not having to wear a shower cap? I know it sounds silly but I love how the steam affects my curls and I love how I don't care if my hair gets wet anymore! WOOHOO! I think the steam honestly keeps my hair from being crunchy. I love big puffy curls!!!

D.I.D. Nail Paint: Thanks so much for sharing, Corlis!
